Prop. 8 Trial - Supremes rule “No Video”

So. The five conservative justices on the Supreme Court have ruled, in a 5-4 decision, that no one is allowed to see video of the Prop. 8 case now being argued in California. That’s something. Perhaps the case should have been argued in front of Judge Judy. Think about it. A trial is occurring that will end in a decision about whether gay people are second class citizens. Whatever the decision, it will be appealed to the Supremes. I feel confident, don’t you, that gays will remain second class citizens, maybe even third class citizens, by the time this gets decided by the Supremes.

It would be enlightening to see the trial now, since what I can gather from news accounts is that the main argument against same-sex marriage is “procreation.” Really? Or it is the “history of marriage.” Really? What sort of history does marriage have? One man and one woman who marry only to procreate? What about love?

I’m tired of ranting about this issue. I am one of the 18,000 couples who got married in California during the brief window of opportunity. Don’t get me wrong, it means everything to me on an emotional level. But on an equal rights level, it means nothing. I am not protected by the same laws that straight married couples are - my insurance benefits are even taxed as income on my husband’s paycheck. No federal protection exists at all.

It has always been my belief and remains so that straight Americans think gay Americans have far more “rights” than we do. The only “right” that Luke and I have now that we are married Californians is that we get to file a joint California tax return. That is it.

That is it.

One Response to “Prop. 8 Trial - Supremes rule “No Video””

  1. Jewell Says:

I am 64. In my brief existence, I have observed hatred, bigotry, prejudice, downright meanness and ugliness, and I have observed those who call others “second class” citizens. Probably the last people on earth who will still be viewed as second class are women.

What saddens me most about people is their unmitigated gall to determine what is right, moral, etc. for others. That just makes my blood boil. Dad always said that one should not talk to a fool: it only makes you mad and annoys the fool.

Those who steal the rights of others do not appreciate rights and privileges they have. Those who preach the gospel and forget to love their brothers are hypocrites. I am sure God/Christ is saying, “Who will throw the first stone? Have you sinned? If so, don’t throw.”

You and Luke are not second class citizens. I wish the government could view things differently. One of my friends at school had the same thing happen to her. I grieved with her when she lost her mate. It took such a long time for her insurance to help pay for the loss of her mate.

I am not sure what is wrong with people. I do feel that people are so damned insecure about themselves that they reach out to try to control or do control the lives of others. Perhaps their lives are such that they don’t wish to think of their mundaneness and live only to mastermind those of others.

There was a time when girls were not educated.
There was a time when women were not allowed to work.
There was a time when pregnant women could not continue to work.
There was a time when courts overlooked a man’s abuse of his
    wife and children.
There was a time that alcohol was legal, illegal, and drugs run rampant
    today.
There was a time when only whites could attend the same school and there was a time when people in love ( black and a white) were scorned and looked down upon.

And now these highly urinated people targets you and Luke and millions of others. My reason hurts for those insipid little tadpoles who envision themselves as whales. The laws that Congress passes have been in many cases the laws that break the backs, hearts, and minds of people who would give their lives for their country.

I am mad at the law. Mad at them for hurting my cousin. Mad at them for acting like a 5 year old know it all. Lucy comes to mind in Peanuts. I am so sorry for your hurt in all of this and I would like to beat the sh.. out of those who even began to cause your suffering and pain. Give me an address. They have to sleep sometime. Love to Luke.

    Love you dear one.
